Public Access Design call for projects on policing and legal system reform

_Public Access Design_ call for projects on policing and legal system reform

Like many of our fellow New Yorkers, and Americans, we at CUP struggled with the news of the Michael Brown and Eric Garner grand jury decisions. Many of us joined in protests and in supporting the work of our partner organizations who continue to work to reform policing and the legal system. But we wanted to commit our organizational resources to contribute more systematically to these efforts as well.

We have decided to dedicate the next round of our Public Access Design program to issues addressing reform of policing and/or the legal system. All of our Public Access Design projects are collaborations in which CUP, a designer, and a grassroots community organization or advocacy group work together to create an accessible visual explanation of a complex policy issue, so that more people can understand how that system works, and more people can engage in decision-making around it. You can find out more about the program and how to apply here.

We will continue to search for opportunities to apply CUP’s skills and resources in the service of important social justice issues like these. And we honor the lives lost to injustice and the work of many in bending the arc of the moral universe towards justice.

See examples of past projects and apply online here.

Applications are due February 6th, 2015 by 8 pm.
