What have Red Hook students been up to?

What have Red Hook students been up to?

Red Hook students have conducted two more interviews as part of of their investigation into public safety in their community!

With the support of Teaching Artist Marianna Olinger, students from the Red Hook Community Justice Center recently completed interviews with Tiffany Eason, Director of Communications and Legislation at the office of City Councilman Donovan Richards, and Carolyn Martinez-Class, Organizing and Policy Coordinator at Communities United for Police Reform.

Their documentary is expected to launch this winter and will include original student artwork, like the posters pictured above. Here is what some of the students had to say about their recent interviews:

“I thought it was good. I thought it was useful. It was a few things that we’d heard before, but it was kind of reassuring to know that those policies are already enacted. Like with others, they were talking about those policies, but as if they were like some distant far off thing and hearing that, oh yeah, some of these actually already exist was kind of nice” – Sulli, Student

“I liked it… I feel like I kind of like connected with [Carolyn] more because she’s like an activist, and she’s younger than everybody else that we interviewed.” – Ronny, Student

“When she was talking about those goals I also liked what she said. I felt like [Tiffany], she kind of talked about the laws are actually currently happening and she was really informative of what’s going on.” – Stiven, Student
