Students Spring into New Investigations!

Students Spring into New Investigations!

In the past several weeks, CUP launched two Urban Investigations with students to explore social justice issues impacting New Yorkers.

CUP and Teaching Artist Hugo Rojas are collaborating with students from the Bronx School for Law, Government, and Justice to investigate parole and its impact on New Yorkers. What’s the difference between parole and probation? How many people are impacted by these systems and how could things be different?

Over the next several weeks students will interview directly involved individuals, elected officials, public defenders, people working in the system, and members of their communities. Through collaborative filmmaking techniques, students will explore the issue and record what they learn to produce a video documentary. Stay tuned for more updates!

CUP and Teaching Artist Chaparro are collaborating with students from the High School for Climate Justice to explore the issue of flooding streets and subways. Why do NYC streets and subways stations flood?  How do these floods impact New Yorkers? How can we work towards a greener future?

To explore this issue, students will interview stakeholders and members of their community, engage in collaborative artmaking, and create a final printed project that explains what they learned. Check out some images of students in action as they learned how to marble paper, make styrofoam prints, and map their neighborhood!
